The presentation of the 2015 Princess Margriet Award for Culture honouring Athens Biennale (GR) and the Visual Culture Research Center (UA) will take place in Brussels at BOZAR, Centre for Fine Arts, on Tuesday 31 March 2015.
The ECF Princess Margriet for Culture Award is a platform for showing those whose creative work can truly make a difference to Europe’s varied societies, underlining ECF’s belief that social and political change requires artistic and cultural engagement. The Award was launched in 2008 in honour of ECF’s former President, HRH Princess Margriet of the Netherlands. The total prize money for both laureates is € 50,000.

Visual Culture Research Center (VCRC) and Athens Biennale courageously show
how culture can be a means of resistance and creative subversion. Their practices of solidarity and inventive models of self-organisation redefine the notion of ‘agora’ in their respective urban contexts. This conversation will reflect on situations of crisis and the way their cultural practices are a means for rethinking Europe’s public sphere from its so-called peripheries.
