Athens Biennale Symposium: a short report

On 3 December 2014, 2015 ECF Princess Margriet Award Laureate the Athens Biennale hosted a symposium with local and international cultural stakeholders to discuss together future formats of cultural collaboration in Athens. In front of a packed auditorium of 300 the symposium opened a lively discussion on the future of cultural institutions in Athens, and their role in strengthening the relation between contemporary Greek artistic production in an international context. The invited speakers engaged in a dialogue exploring possible synergies between institutions and the prospects for the outward projection of the local artistic landscape.

The speakers were Denys Zacharopoulos, Artistic Director, Macedonian Center of Contemporary Art, Marios Kostakis, General Director for Contemporary Culture, Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports, Massimiliano Mollona, Senior Lecturer, Department of Anthropology, Goldsmiths University of London,  Katherine Watson, Director, European Cultural Foundation, Xenia Kalpaktsoglou & Poka Yio, Co-directors, Athens Biennale, Adam Szymczyk, Artistic Director, documenta 14, Yorgos Tzirtzilakis, Artistic Advisor, DESTE Foundation & Assistant Professor, Department of Architecture, University of Thessaly, and  Afroditi Panagiotakou, Executive Vice Director, Onassis Cultural Centre.
