wonderlab Kiev 2014 - a report

Between 12-17 May 2014, ECF granted interactive WONDERLAB moved from wonderland´s headquarter in Vienna to Kiev's CANactions festival, and established an urban laboratory dedicated to social tendencies in architecture and urbanism.

This first architecture festival in Kiev (UA) taking place after Maidan was enriched with an urban laboratory called “wonderlab” concentrating on the revitalisation of the river banks and ex-industrial sites of the city. Parallel to the election of the EU-Parliament, the international and local participants reflected on the role of Europe, the EU, its member states, organisations, as well as on individual Europeans in Ukraine and especially in Kiev.

The CANactions 2014 workshops in Telichka were organised by wonderland and CANactions with three working groups lead by Jord den Hollander (NL), Clement Blanchard (FR), and Nasrin Mohiti Asli (IT) and Jacopo Ammendola (IT) and were curated by Daniela Patti and Levente Polyak from the Wonderland-platform for European Architecture (AT).

The workshop’s objectives were to elaborate a vision, programme and design for the future buildings and spaces of Telichka, creating a blueprint for further developments in Kiev, a new framework for participation, community involvement and strategic planning in the city.

Wonderland - platform for european architecture is a Vienna / Austria based network for exchanging experiences, information and knowledge for young Europe-oriented architecture practices.
