On 15 February 2017 in The Hague, during an afternoon of discussion organised by the Bernard van Leer Foundation and the Major Alliance, Dr Van Gendt gave a brief speech highlighting the importance of investing in the children of refugees and of taking on a long-term approach focussing on potential rather than deficits.
